All our berimbaus are carefully crafted and selected directly in our workshop. The wood was cut from the forest at the right time (according to the lunar cycle, following traditional methods). This guarantees the quality and longevity of your instrument.
Mestre Ivan de Santo Amaro is a craftsman/capoeira master based in Santo Amaro da Purificação, specializing in the making of capoeira instruments. He personally harvests his genuine biriba wood from his own forest and then crafts his berimbaus in his workshop. He supplies the most demanding capoeira masters in Brazil and around the world. He is known for being an excellent berimbau player.
Our berimbaus are delivered unstrung (unhooked) for greater durability and to prevent breakage during transport. With a few exceptions (certain schools), it is recommended to unstrung your berimbau after each use.
Please note: due to the density of biriba wood, these instruments are not always easy for a beginner to cock. Ask your instructor for advice.
